Introducing My Gluten Free All-Purpose Baking Flour Blend & Refined Sugar Free Granola

I am thrilled to announce my brand new Artisanal Gluten Free All-Purpose Baking Flour Blend and Refined Sugar & Gluten Free Granola. After years of trial, error, blood, sweat, tears, and many many oven burns I was able to craft gluten and dairy free baked goods that were just as good or (more often than not) better than their gluten free counterparts. Curating a flour blend that mimics the taste, texture, and consistency of traditional wheat flour was no easy task.

I’ve lived gluten free since early 2009 but it wasn’t until 2011 when I lived in Nashville Tennessee in a small one bedroom apartment equipped with nothing more than a stove, a few eggs, cornstarch, sugar, butter and oatmeal that I started to hone my craft of baking gluten free. I was tired of dry, tasteless, and expensive store bought gluten free treats that at the time, left much to be desired. I set out to bake edible and tasty gluten free treats on a dime and with a little luck, sweat, and ingenuity, I was able to bake my first batch of granola styled cookies. Corn bread was next, and then snack cake. Soon my composition recipe book was filled to the brim with gluten free dreams and recipes.  My goal from day one has been to share my journey through celiac disease one recipe at a time.

I’ve been sitting on this announcement for weeks and I’m now finally able to bring these two A+mazing items to the public. Click to learn more about the all-purpose flour blend and granola as well as how you can purchase your very own through our exclusive limited time deal with Groupon. Continue reading

Announcing The Rochester Gluten Free Health & Wellness Expo

There aren’t enough words to begin to describe the level of excitement I have in announcing The Rochester Gluten Free Health & Wellness Expo. All week I’ve been bursting at the seams with anticipation. I’ve been plotting, planning, and collaborating for months to unveil this latest venture. This expo is the first gluten free themed major health fair to be held in Upstate New York. It is surreal that this announcement is happening since it has been on my heart for well over two years. Two years ago I wrote “plan a gluten free expo” in my dream book and now two years later it is well on its way to becoming a reality.

This expo is a unique collaboration with the Pieter’s Family Life Center which has a mission to strengthen the community and nurture relationships through recreational, educational, social, spiritual, health and wellness programs that are inclusive to all people.

We  will host dozens of vendors and small business owners that are committed to holistic wellness. Workshops, demonstrations, and keynote speakers will address all aspects of life impacted by celiac disease and and other chronic illnesses. It will truly be a day of fun, education, and awareness.  The expo will connect the region’s gluten free community with national and local gluten free brands, services, small businesses, and people who have a similar mission of raising awareness for celiac disease, health, and wellness.

It continues to be my goal to connect and educate everyone on the simplicity and diversity of living a gluten free lifestyle. The expo is just another way to raise awareness and make positive connections in the gluten free community.

To learn more about the expo and to register visit www.roctheglutenfreeexpo.com or email asktheglutenfreechef@gmail.com.

The Rochester Gluten Free Food Guide

As I continue to expand the reach and breadth of this website I am constantly looking for new ways to connect, inform, enlighten, educate, and engage the gluten free and celiac community. There was once a time when the gluten free chef blog was a tiny little space for me to vent and ramble (I still ramble) about my life as celiac, a foodie, and a person living with chronic illness. This site still covers those topics, but has blossomed into something more. Something greater. Something bigger than myself. A safe place. A shared space. A space that provides content tailored to you, for you. This space is local, domestic, and international.

I’ve had the pleasure to connect with so many A+mazing, awesome, inspiring, kind, and truly great people right here in my hometown of Rochester, NY. People who, like me, are concerned about their food, where it comes from, how it is prepared, and how it is sourced. People looking to heal themselves through food. People looking to buy delicious, reasonably priced, processed, homemade, local, and sometimes not local; whole, real, and clean food. I’ve heard your voices, read your questions, and listened to your concerns. It’s for this reason that I am launching the newest blog feature: The Rochester Gluten Free Food Guide. Continue reading
