Chicory Farm Goat Milk Soap | Product Review

As most of you know, I’ve made it my aim to detoxify my life as best as I can by ridding myself of toxic people (more on that later) and products. I’ve moved to the natural DIY side of everything from toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, body wash, moisturizer, and of course soap. My staples have been pure Nigerian Black Soap but my affinity to supporting local and sustainable businesses keep me on the look out for other natural based soaps.

You can imagine my glee a few weeks ago during an impromptu window shopping excursion in the SouthWedge Neighborhood of Rochester when I stumbled upon Chicory Farm Goat Milk Soap while perusing the adorable shop Little Button Craft & Press. (review coming)

Goat’s milk soap was one I’d never even thought to look into; so I eagerly purchased a bar. The soap first of all smelled divine. Deliciously sweet, naturally scented without harsh parfumes (which I can no longer tolerate). My senses repel that chemically enhanced parfume smell that plagues many naturally branded products.

Chicory Farm is an actual goat farm run by actual goat farmers Sara & Steve… How cool is that.  Chicory Farm is not only a livestock farm but doubles as a bed and breakfast in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. What started as a love of goats blossomed into a menagerie of farm animals and farm products. I am so enamored by young families that take to sustainable farming as a profession. If my home gardening is 1/100000th of a glimmer as to the arduous work that is livestock and agricultural farming my hats go off to the makers farmers that keep our fridges stocked and tables full.

I could ramble on for forever about how Steve and Sara are friends in my head but back to the soap. The soap was more than amazing. Smooth. Clean. Dove has absolutely nothing on it. This first purchase was the Oatmeal bar but it comes in an array of scents including:

  • Grapefruit
  • Sweet Orange
  • Lavendar Lemon and more

My only (pseudo) complaint if you can even call it that, is that the bar is on the smaller side and lasted just two days over a week. I’m sure this is just the nature of “milk” soap but I was so devastated when it ran out that I wished I had bought more. Next purchase I plan to buy the body wash which i know will last much much longer. Thank you Steve and Sara for making this decadent soap and running an amazing farm and retail business.

Bread Srsly Gluten Free Sour Dough | Product Review

I can’t quite remember how I stumbled upon Bread Srsly. It may have been during a late night food gawking session or during one of my mindless scrollings through my newsfeed; either way I found it and I am so glad I did.

For those who don’t know, Bread Srsly is a San Fransisco based gluten free bread company founded by the A+mazing Sadie Scheffer. Sadie founded the company in late 2011 after years of experimenting with gluten free baking recipes while in college.  Initially her experimentation was for someone else but she soon learned that she was gluten intolerant herself. The rest as they say is history. Fast forward to now and Bread Srsly bakes and ships from scratch loaves of wonderful gluten free sour dough bread loaves and buns all over the country.
