I haphazardly stumbled upon Almond Dream yogurt while shopping at my local Wegmans. I was excited to see that they carry another dairy free yogurt alternative besides So Delicious which up until now was the only non-dairy brand I was aware of. Although I am not allergic to dairy, I keep it to a minimum as I find that too much wrecks havoc on my system. I eagerly bought the plain and strawberry flavors of Almond Dream.
Almond Dream non-dairy yogurts have a texture and consistency very similar to Greek yogurt. The strawberry flavor has 18 grams of sugar and 160 calories. It has a mildly sweet flavor; definitely less sweet than one might think. I like that they are made using all natural ingredients, are gluten free, and are non-GMO verified. I typically like my flavored yogurts to contain pieces of real fruit like Chobani and other brands; but Almond Dream uses a strawberry puree and has a smooth texture. As an almond product, I expected it to have a higher protein content, but the strawberry only contains 1 gram of protein.
Overall, Almond Dream is a decent dairy free alternative to those that may be lactose intolerant and have full fledged dairy allergies. I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would and will most likely use it in my breakfast smoothies and juices. Visit the Almond Dream site and Facebook page to learn more about their products and where you can purchase their yogurt in your area,
